Concorde’s valve regulated sealed recombinant gas (RG®) Emergency / Standby batteries are constructed with advanced lead acid absorbed glass mat (AGM) technology. Concorde’s proven technology provides reliable performance that protects and extends the life of avionics.

Designed to float directly on the DC buss with high inrush current for fast recovery time and extended battery life. Concorde batteries are self-regulating and will accept only the current required to maintain a charge. There is no need for a dedicated charger.

  • Factory Tested - Assures airworthiness & installation readiness
  • Maintenance Free – No addition of electrolyte or water ever required
  • Proven Technology – Dependable, durable and safe
  • Transport – Ships HAZMAT exempt
  • TSO Approved - FAA TSO-C173 approved
  • Worldwide – Available through a professional network of worldwide distributors

Concorde designs and manufactures over 90 models of Original Equipment and direct replacement batteries for fixed wing and rotary aircraft and has a reputation for designing application specific solutions.  Concorde batteries are installed as Original Equipment by the majority of aircraft manufacturers and adopted by military aircraft operators worldwide.

Manufacturing certified aircraft batteries for over 40 years: Military, TSO, FAA-PMA, OEM

Avionics Battery for lighting, standby, emergency power. Protects and extends the life of other avionics. Concorde Emergency Batteries float directly on the DC buss with no need for a dedicated charger. This results in a high inrush current which extends battery life with fast recovery time from discharge. With the battery floating directly on the buss, transient spikes in the DC power are absorbed. These batteries are self regulating on charge and will take only the current required to maintain it at full charge.

Recombinant Gas - The RGA® Series are low resistance, valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries.

  • Maintenance free
  • Constructed with non removable vent valves - no addition of electrolyte or water required
  • Factory tested to assure airworthiness
  • Shipped fully charged and ready to install
  • Manufactured with absorbed glass mat separators (AGM)
  • RG® Series batteries ship non-HAZMAT

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Concorde Lead Acid Battery SDS
All Concorde Battery Corporation's Concorde RG® series and D8565 series, Chairman® AGM series, Lifeline® GPL series, and Sun Xtender® PVX series batteries are manufactured utilizing Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) technology. These Valve Regulated Sealed Lead-Acid (VRSLA) batteries are non-spillable and sealed with the electrolyte absorbed in the glass mat separator material.  They are also known as Valve Regulated Batteries (VRB), Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA), Sealed Lead Acid Batteries (SLAB) and Recombinant Gas Lead Acid batteries.

Concorde’s VRLA have been tested in accordance with the vibration and pressure differential tests found in 49 CFR 173.159(f) and free flowing acid tests under 49 CFR 173.159a, the vibration and pressure differential test under IATA Packing Instruction 872, meet IATA Special provisions A48, A67, A164 & A183, and IMDG Special Provisions 238.1 & 238.2.  The batteries are securely packaged, protected from short circuits and labeled “Non-Spillable”.  Concorde VRLA batteries are exempt from DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations, IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, and International Maritime Organization (IMO) IMDG Code.

Classifications are as follows:

US DOT
Exempted from the requirements because batteries have passed the vibration and pressure differential performance tests, and ruptured case test for Non-Spillable -designation.

IMO
Exempted from the requirements because batteries have passed the vibration and pressure differential performance tests, and ruptured case test for Non-Spillable designation.  When packaged for transport, the terminals are protected from short circuit.

IATA
Exempted from the requirements because batteries have passed the vibration and pressure differential performance tests, and ruptured case test for Non-Spillable designation.
When packaged for transport, the terminals are protected from short circuit.  The words “Not Restricted” and the Special Provision numbers must be included in the description of the substance on the Air Waybill as required by 8.2.6, when an Air Waybill is issued.

ADR
Per Special Provision 598 Concorde’s VRLA batteries are not subject to the requirements of ADR when they are secured in such a way that they cannot slip, fall or be damaged and are suitably stacked, e.g. on pallets (or, if not on pallets, are provided with carrying devices). Concorde VRLA batteries have no dangerous traces of alkalis or acids on the outside and are protected against short circuits.

This notice is to clarify to shippers and transporters that Concorde RG® Series, Chairman®, Lifeline®, and Sun Xtender® batteries are determined to be in compliance with DOT HMR49 Non-Hazardous Materials, the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), Special Provisions S.P. A48, A67, A164, A183 & Packaging Instruction 872 and International Maritime Organization (IMO) IMDG S.P. 238.1 & 238.2. Therefore, these batteries are not restricted for shipment by air, sea or ground and are exempted from the hazardous material category. Please ensure that you follow the requirements of DOT, IATA and IMDG to ensure these exceptions remain applicable.
